Core Responsibilities
  • Blood Glucose Monitoring: Assisting with or performing routine fingerstick blood glucose checks using a glucometer, and accurately recording the results.
  • Vital Signs: Measuring and logging vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration).
  • Meal & Nutrition Assistance: Helping students adhere to dietary guidelines as planned(e.g., carbohydrate counting, making sure they eat regular meals/snacks, and documenting exact food/liquid intake)
  • Symptom Observation: Monitoring for and instantly reporting signs of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar, such as sweating or shakiness) or hyperglycemia (high blood sugar, such as extreme thirst or fruity-smelling breath).
  • Emergency Response: Depending on facility-specific training, this can include administering emergency treatments like Glucagon, and calling emergency services or the supervising nurse when necessary
  • Nursing Assistance as directed by the supervising nurse.
  • Record Keeping as directed by the supervising nurse.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Professional attitude and ability to maintain confidential information
  • Position will be reevaluated each year for continued need
